There is TOO something wrong.
There once was a woman who had a question. This woman (who shall remain nameless) had gone from place to place with her problem and has been told each time there was nothing wrong with her. She knew she wasn't imagining the pain. She knew it had to have a physical reason.
What was her problem? Simple back pain, stiff neck, knee pain and a headache but the usual prescription of pain killers, rest and a bit of physio wasn't enough for this intelligent woman. She wanted to know why her back hurt and what she can do to prevent it from all happening again. Her questions went unanswered until she met a Chiropractor.
Little is known in this part of the world about Chiropractors and their treatment. A Chiropractor is a primary healthcare provider. This means they go to school for six to eight years, studied many of the same basic subjects as medical doctors, are able to use x-rays, MRI's , blood and other tests to come to a proper diagnosis and then treat a patient or refer them out to the proper healthcare provider. So what's different about a Chiropractor? They don't use drugs and they don't do surgery. They are specialists in the mechanical functioning of the body. What do they do? They return proper motion to the joints of the body.
What's the big deal with that?
EVERYTHING!
Let me explain. Take as an example the woman who we've been talking about. Her problems are all very MECHANICAL problems. Your body is a closed system of pulleys and levers. A muscle contracts, two bones are brought closer or further apart using a joint as a fulcrum. If the joint isn't moving perfectly (very common) then problems begin. The muscle crossing the joint gets strained and starts to ache. Over time the muscle fibers hardens and shortens and chronic pain sets in. Sound familiar? This is the little ache that gets worse over time.
This is what happened to this woman. About 10 years ago she had a little fender bender with her car. X-rays were taken , nothing was broken and so she was sent home with a few pain killers. Everything seemed fine then a bit of stiffness after work and in the morning started. Almost unnoticeable at first and then it became 'normal' to be a bit stiff in the morning. Time went on and stiffness turned to ache which turned to pain which turned into a problem which was making work harder and life less worth living. She then got on the pain killer & anti-inflammatory > physio > massage >sensi >bomoh>tukang urut merry-go-round and found herself on a steady diet of pills, massage and traction with hot packs and ultrasound. Relief was temporary when she did get relief . This degenerative cycle continued on for years until she went to a Chiropractor.
What did they do? First they addressed the muscle problem with trigger point therapy (Myotherapy) to reverse the infiltration of muscle metabolic waste product. This combined with a home stretching program rehabilitates the damaged muscles. Next they did what Chiropractors are famous for, they Adjust (manipulate) the spine and free up any Subluxated (fixed, not moving correctly) joints in the spine. This does a number of things including taking stress off of muscles and nerves. It also takes stress off the joint itself and that has many benefits. Degenerative joint disease can be prevented, stopped and reversed and the nourishing senovial fluid inside the joint can now flow to all parts of the joint helping to prevent osteoarthritis. It is interesting to note that even with an arthritic joint that is moderately degenerated, Chiropractic treatment along with shark cartilage can rebuild the joint to a great degree in many people. So what happens now with the happy patient who now knows her problem is chronic (old) myofacitis (muscle waste deposits) with associated vertebral Subluxation (sticky joints in the spine)? The Chiropractor will give her myotherapy and Chiropractic adjustments and then show her how to properly stretch her muscles. Over time she will get better. How much time and how well she gets is up to her. For now she is on her way back to health.
