WEIGHT LOSS

BASIC IDEA (The Dream)

When people say they want to lose weight they mean they want to lose fat. Body fat is more properly called a Triglyceride. It is one molecule sugar and three molecules of Free Fatty Acids. Now if you don't want to make a triglyceride you either get rid of the fat or you get rid of the sugar. How? Not so simple, keep them out of your mouth. Now which should you not eat? Fat has gotten a bad reputation but unfairly. Fat is important to our well being. If we had no fat in our diet we would soon develop deficiency diseases. That's right. No fat and we get sick. Carbohydrates (sugar) on the other hand is not essential to our diet. If we never put another piece of rice, bread or a noodle in our mouth ever again, we would be healthier than we are today. These nutrients are completely non-essential to our diet. There is not such thing as an essential carbohydrate. If our body wants sugar, it can break down protein to form it very easily. Carbohydrate however, can not form protein or fat.

The best way to lose body fat is to access it directly and use it for fuel instead of carbohydrates. I want to suggest to you what I consider the three best books on the subject and one other that you must have. When you click on the links to these books you will be taken to the websites of the author or Amazon.com. If possible, please buy these books locally and help our own economy. Not only that but I want you to read and educate yourself. That way, no one will ever be able to lie to you again with false advertisements or infomercials. Besides these books, another excellent source of information (read the books first) is the usenet newsgroup alt.support.diet.low-carb .

WHY YOU ARE GOING TO FAIL AND NOT LOSE WEIGHT

WHAT?????????

That's right. You're going to go on a diet, lose some weight and then you're going to fall off the diet and gain it all back and probably a bit more. How can I say that? Easy, that's what research tells us. What? Everyone says eat less and exercise and I will lose weight.

But that is NOT what the research says.

But there was a guy from the government on the tv and some big muscle guy saying eat right and exercise. They said all the studies said eat right and exercise and I'll get thin.

Nope. Doesn't work.

Now let's be clear, I'm talking about the 99% of the population that are like you and me. I'm not talking about the genetic freaks or the people who live at the gym and work out for 2+ hours a day every day. I'm not talking about professional athletes who work out 4 hours a day or more. I'm not talking about professional body builders who go on insane diets before competitions or photo sessions. I'm talking about you and me.

THE REAL RESEARCH

There are people who do real research on obesity (being fat) and there are those who make their money researching diet after diet and would go broke if there were no more diets to research.

Real research has shown:

All diets show weight loss but if you follow the people that lose the weight for 3 years or more you find that 99% of the people that lost weight put it all back on again.

People from fat families will be fat. People from thin families will be thin.

We have a 20 pound range that we can control with constant effort.

The only method that has shown any significant degree of success over a long period has been weight loss (Bariatric) surgery.

That's it. I'm sure many of you are going no, no, no, no, no even though you yourself may have gone on multiple diets, lost weight, gained it back, I'm sure you're saying no. The diet industry has us programmed that it's all our fault and we fail because we're weak. That's rubbish. There are real, physiological reasons that we eat like we do and we can no more not eat than we can not breathe.

I want you to do some reading and some listening.

First I have an article for you to read, it's called Obesity: Matter over Mind. "After these same patients lost weight, however, they manifested many behavioral and physiological alterations. They developed a marked preoccupation with food and dieting; and their physical and mental activity generally slowed down. Changes in our patients’ perception of the passage of time suggested that an internal clock had slowed.Sec Their body image also became distorted."

Second, I have a wonderful book for you to read: Rethinking Thin by Gina Kolata.

In this book, author Gina Kolata sums up obesity research for the last 100 years. I did an extensive review of this book on the ChiroPod site. Here are the links to the reviews:

So if you're just a little overweight, near your set-point, then go ahead and diet a little and exercise. If you have a need to lose 40 or more pounds then you'd better be thinking of surgery.

The best site to learn about weight loss surgery is obesityhelp.com
There you will find a community of people who have had the surgery and can answer any questions you have and help you through the surgery.
